Raygun Map

Raygun Kangaroo Hop

When looking for inspiration for the new Neo maps, I decided to try my hand at making a map inspired by Australia’s infamous b-girl, Raygun, from the 2024 Paris Olympics. Let’s check it out:

Raygun Map

The map is included with the game of course, and you can also view it online here in text form.

I used the outer space textures (* and x) for the hair, since she’s a brunette. I used the white marble textures (w and W) for the shoes, hands/arms, and face. Finally, I used the Eko cells (@) for the eyes and the alien fruit (:) for a part of the mouth. The rest is kind of random.

The likeness is…questionable, but hey, I tried my best!

The map is fairly easy, I’d say, but also easy to get lost in. I think most people will be able to beat it. I’m surprised there isn’t a Raygun game on itch.io yet? Shirley, one will come out from a Game Jam.

In addition to the Raygun map, I also created a Pac-Man and an Ice Cream map. You can read more about how I created the Neo maps here in the previous devlog.

The Pac-Man map is actually quite hard! It takes a bit of time to beat properly. In order to make it somewhat playable, I had to space out the hallways (3 spaces instead of 1). I also added an outside area that is kind of whimsical. As a side note, there are several 3D Pac-Man games on itch.io that look fun, like this one by Thiago.

The Ice Cream map is also pretty tough. For it, I used a unique idea where you need to eat the fruit and then eat a stationary robot stuck between the walls to get to the next part. Unfortunately, it bubbles to the top of the list, but might not be the best map to first play as a novice. In the next version, maybe I should move it down somehow?

I also had some other maps planned, but making them took too much time, and honestly, weren’t that fun to play, so I didn’t put them in this version. Maybe I’ll improve them and put them in the next version of the game. They include maps based on the following ideas: the Titanic ship (different decks); a Triathlon (swim, bike, run); a 3D chess board; and a house (3+ floors). The idea was to lean into the new features of portals and multiple grids.

As always, you can play the game here. Namaste!
