đź”® Ramblings: The Future


Now that the Game Jam is over, I’ve decided to rename the project to “Weepawn!” instead of “You Are The Wee Pawn!”

I’m currently busy working on other stuff at the moment that interests me more, but I would like to re-visit this project in the future.

Fixes to project:

  • Change to use Godot UI for board. Refactor (probably re-write) all code.
  • Bugs/Suggestions from user comments.

Things that I’m thinking about changing/adding:

  • No team AI (just opponent AI). The player makes all moves.
  • Make “pawns” just move like pawns.
  • When there is a capture, always start a battle.
  • Possibly lose all pieces that die in the battle? Not sure on this one.
  • Allow the player to switch between pieces during the battle.
  • From the pieces that can “see” the attacked piece, the player selects which ones join the battle?
  • Add two player mode (same keyboard and/or gamepad/joystick).
  • Add a special attack for each piece?
  • Android release?

Things that I would like to add but will take a lot of work:

  • Story mode with a market? So can buy upgrades or sell stuff. Could also have armor, different weapons, etc.
  • 4 player online mode? So 4 player chess. Either free-for-all or teams. For online mode, I’d have to run some sort of ads before each game so that I can pay for the server cost. For offline mode, no ads of course.
